The purpose of this kind of marketing is to create a constant flow of marketing material to pre-customers or customers over a defined period of time and when done well, it has increased a marketers customer base anywhere from 30%- 100%. Normally drip marketing is done via email marketing or newsletters.
What about social media? Can drip marketing be used in social media?

Social media is all around us and its very hard to ignore especially when we are told all the time that we need to use social media to grow our business. As an affiliate marketer finding your customers is important to make the sale and yet many people are having problems transforming the “social” aspect of these relationships into actual customers.
It should go without saying that people offline and online are willing to buy from those they like and they trust and when using social media to find customers the philosophy is the same. when you post the best possible content, when you engage ( that means talk) to people and you go out of your way to help them, then that sets the base for creating a good reputation where people will want to hear from you.
A few years ago, I went to a course about social media and being productive and one of the first things I learned was to delete newsletters that were useless and I did, in fact it took me a couple of months to delete everything and I had this feeling of pride..I sure did! The only problem is I started to collect them again, because good newsletters are great for keeping up with your industry, you have favorite bloggers and my goodness what if you miss that next great deal? So I was back to the same problem! ( is this a hoarding mentality?)
It may seem like an old cliche, but it’s true. Most people quit, right about the time they would have begun to see success, if they had just gone that extra little bit. An old salesman I once worked with in door-to-door sales told me that if it takes knocking on 100 doors to make one sale, then you should work like the dickens to get the other 99 out of the way so you can make that one sale. Some of the old door-to-door sales strategies are good ideas to add to your affiliate marketing strategies arsenal!
Social media is so important, today, that there are multiple blogs dedicated ONLY to social media. You should dedicate a little time every day to reading articles just on social media and learn about all the tools at your disposal. This would be a book if I wrote about it here!
Just remember that just like email, but even more important with social media, do not spam. Share interesting, quality snippets and tweets from your blog, and make sure to include the link to your blog in your profile everywhere you go, and always, always, always in your signature file any place you post.
